Frequently asked questions

Does Trainer Hours tell me whether I can sit the exam?

No. Trainer Hours does not determine eligibility. The certifying body decides eligibility. It totals the rows you log and shows them against the published numbers, with the source named, so you can see what is missing.

Is this site part of the CCPDT?

No. Trainer Hours is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) or any other certifying body. CPDT-KA and CBCC-KA are marks of their owners. It names the certifying body only to say whose published requirements it summarises.

Where are my rows stored?

Only in this browser, on this device. There is no account and nothing you log is uploaded, including your clients' names and their dogs' names. Export a backup file from the log page now and then, because clearing your browser's site data deletes the log.

Why does a row with my own dog show as not counted?

The certifying body's handbook and log instructions say training hours cannot be earned with your own dog. The log keeps the row so your record is complete, and leaves it out of every total.

Why does the log warn me about acronyms?

The log instructions ask candidates not to use acronyms. The row still counts here, but spell the words out before you copy the row into the application.

Can I log every session separately?

Keep your own session notes however you like, but the application wants a summary: at most one client or facility for one month per row. Add up the month's hours for each client and log one row, or two if some hours were hands-on and some assisting.

Is the CSV the certifying body's upload template?

No. The template sits inside the candidate application and was not available to us. The CSV's first columns follow the order of the fields the log instructions list, so you can copy or map them into the template.

What happens to rows older than three years?

They stay in your log but drop out of the totals once their month is outside the 36 months ending with your count date. The progress page lists the rows that leave in the next three months.

Does it cover the behavior consultant log too?

Yes. The behavior consultant log counts individual and group hours toward the same 300 in three years, with at least 225 individual and at most 75 group hours from classes dedicated to fear, phobias, anxiety or aggression.
